Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Training

Most NHS organisations require GCP to be renewed every 2-3 years (check with your Trust R&D department) and updates are usually best done via a shorter refresher course or online. The NIHR has rolled out a Good Clinical Practice (GCP) programme and course information and local dates can be found here. You will need to select an event in your local area and booking information is on the website, but get in touch if you have difficulties.

Some Trusts offer their own GCP courses or online versions so get in touch with your local R&D department for more details.

 GCP e-learning is now live!

We are pleased to announce the release of the beta version of the ‘Introduction to Good Clinical Practice E-learning’ course. The course takes around half a day to complete and we recommend that learners set aside the time to complete the course in one sitting if possible.

The content of this e-learning course is based on the successful and well-established taught ‘Introduction to GCP’ workshops and includes both primary and secondary care pathways and now includes additional modules on informed consent or equivalent processes when involving children, adults lacking capacity or in emergency settings. Please view the full course description here.

The course will be made available to anyone who is/will be working on a study listed in the UK CRN Portfolio database, or works directly for the NIHR CRN or partner organisations in the devolved nations. We recognise that GCP training can play a useful role in increasing the research capacity in local Networks. To support this, the course will also be available to people supporting research in the NHS.

The course is available via the Learning Management System and users should register on the system in the usual way before requesting access. Guidance on producing LMS reports is available in the Authorisation Managers Guide.

NIHR Training Events

The Greater Manchester CLRN training team now utilise the “events” page of the NIHR website to list all training dates being hosted within the GM area that we provide support for (click here). Nomination is via line manager/team lead only, submitting the details as requested on the event flyer. It is aimed that new starters would attend the next available course with availability within the NW region.

Over the next couple of weeks, a GM CLRN training webpage will go live, containing generic training information for all research staff, plus links to protocols and other documents, as endorsed by the Research Workforce Development & Education Strategy.
